ROLLING OUT - Vera Emoghene

Andrea Marcellus has spent more than 30 years helping people get more out of their bodies and minds. As the founder and CEO of AND/life™ and the author of The Way In, she works with high-level executives and busy professionals to build routines that hold up when pressure is at its highest. Her approach combines physical fitness, nutrition, and mental well being, treating all three as one system.

What led you to focus on performance wellness?

It was really the needs of my clients. I work with high-level executives and busy professionals with extremely high demands. I started out in physical well being, but slowly it became obvious how much nutrition and mental well being played a role in overall performance. Everything has to be pieced together. Your body and mind work as one.

What is actually happening in an elite athlete’s mind at the Masters when the stakes are highest?

It’s a really interesting tournament because of how much history surrounds it. It’s the same course every year. They’re battling the history, the weight of the moment and the reverence of the crowd. The quiet voices in your own head get very loud in those circumstances. The quiet can actually work against you. You can get into a trap trying to repeat a great shot just as much as you can get into trouble trying to avoid something that didn’t go well. It’s about practicing presence and who can master their mind. There is no tournament that puts the mental game in a bigger spotlight than the Masters.
